If you live in India, you already know… monsoon is not just about cute weather and chai. It’s also about sticky skin, random breakouts, and that oily shine that just won’t go away.
Every single year, when the humidity rises, my skin starts acting differently. My regular routine suddenly feels too heavy. Pimples pop up faster. And don’t even get me started on fungal acne.
So after a lot of trial and error (and wasting money on products that didn’t suit me), I finally built a simple monsoon routine that actually keeps my oily, acne-prone skin under control.
Let me share it with you — nothing complicated, just practical steps that work in real Indian weather.
First, Why Does Skin Get So Weird in Monsoon?
Humidity is the main villain here.
- Your skin produces more oil.
- Sweat mixes with dirt and blocks pores.
- Bacteria grows faster in damp weather.
- Your face feels sticky even after washing.
That’s why your summer or winter routine may suddenly stop working.
My Simple Morning Routine (Keeps Oil in Control)
Step 1: Gentle Oil-Control Cleanser
I switched to a salicylic acid cleanser during monsoon, and honestly, it makes a huge difference.
Two that work really well:
- Minimalist Salicylic Acid Cleanser by 0
- 1% Salicylic Acid Face Wash by 1
I wash my face only twice a day. Earlier I used to wash 4–5 times (big mistake ). That only made my skin more oily.
Step 2: Light, Alcohol-Free Toner
I don’t use heavy toners. Just something calming with niacinamide or green tea.
This step helps reduce that sticky feeling and makes my skin feel fresh.
Step 3: Gel Moisturizer (Yes, Even for Oily Skin)
I used to skip moisturizer thinking it would reduce oil. It actually made things worse.
Now I stick to lightweight gel formulas like:
- Green Tea Oil-Free Moisturizer by 2
- Super Light Gel by 3
They absorb quickly and don’t feel greasy at all.
Step 4: Sunscreen (Even If It’s Cloudy!)
I used to skip sunscreen during rainy days… until I noticed tanning.
Now I never skip it.
- SPF 40 Gel Sunscreen by 4
- Hydrate+ Sunscreen by 5
Gel-based sunscreen is the best option in humid weather.
My Night Routine (This Is Where Acne Control Happens)
If I Wore Makeup – Double Cleanse
I first remove makeup with micellar water, then wash with my salicylic cleanser.
This step really reduced my clogged pores problem.
Treatment – Only 2–3 Times a Week
I don’t overload my skin. That was another mistake I used to make.
Now I rotate between:
- Niacinamide serum for oil control
- Salicylic acid serum for breakouts
Some options I’ve tried:
- Cica Calming Serum by 6
- Niacinamide Serum by 7
And that’s it. I keep it simple.
Moisturize Again (Light Layer Only)
Even at night, I don’t use heavy creams in monsoon. Light gel works best.
Things I Completely Stopped Doing in Monsoon
- Using thick cream moisturizers
- Heavy foundation daily
- Touching my face randomly
- Using the same towel for days
- Trying new products every week
Sometimes skincare is more about what you stop doing.
Small Habits That Helped More Than Products
- Changing pillow cover twice a week
- Washing face after getting drenched in rain
- Drinking enough water
- Eating less fried food during rainy season
These small changes made a bigger difference than expensive products.
Final Thoughts
Monsoon skincare doesn’t need to be complicated.
Just keep it light. Keep it clean. Don’t overdo it.
Your skin needs balance, not 10 new products.
If your skin has been acting up lately because of humidity, try simplifying your routine for a few weeks. You’ll definitely notice a difference.
And remember — consistency always wins over fancy routines.
With love,
BindiBlend
